    Abstract Submission

    ABSTRACTS SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

    Conference Program

    The conference will examine all aspects of care from training and emergency procedures, to responsibilities and legal implications. The program will feature presentations by international and national leaders in prehospital emergency care, updates on treatments and procedures and practical workshops as well as symposia and posters aimed to encourage lively and valuable discussion throughout the forum.

    Please note, the invitation to submit an abstract does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the conference. Similarly, no speaker fee is paid to successful participants. All speakers must register for the conference (registration details will be available shortly) and forward the appropriate registration fee no later than Friday 3rd September 2010.

    Submission of Abstracts

    Please email your abstracts and accompanying documents to rhona.macdonald@monash.edu

    The following documents will be required to complete the submission process:

    • Completed Abstract (click here to view/download sample abstract for layout and style)
    • Ethics approval attached as PDF document (if relevant)
    • Brief biographies for lead presenter and co-presenters attached as a Word document (no more than 100 words). Please note, authors cannot be added or deleted from an abstract following submission.
    • Completed Abstract Cover Sheet and Checklist
    • Please complete your abstract using the following structure as a guide:

    In no more than 300 words, the abstract should provide the context or background of the study. For example:

    • Background – the study’s setting and rationale
    • Objectives – the study’s purpose, basic procedures (selection of study subjects and observational and analytical methods),
    • Methods – instruments used in the study (giving specific effect sizes and their statistical significance, if possible), and
    • Findings and Conclusions – should emphasise new and important aspects or outcomes of the study or observations.

    Ethics

    All research involving humans or animals, must be approved by relevant ethics or governing authorities prior to submission. Where applicable, please include letters of approval with your submission.

    Additionally, all research must be original and must not have appeared in, or be pending publication in any journal prior to submission.

    Entry into Best Paper Award or Best Poster Award

    Authors who wish their abstract(s) to be considered for entry into one of the Awards must indicate this by checking the relevant Award category box on the Abstract Cover Sheet and Checklist. Author Agreement forms are only required to be completed and signed upon confirmation of an offer by the ACAP Scientific Committee, to present in the category of Best Paper or Best Poster Awards.  Forms will be sent out when offers to present at the conference are confirmed.

    Only those abstracts which are recommended by the peer reviewers for presentation at the conference will be eligible to qualify for one of the Awards. Please note you may only select one category for each abstract, e.g. Paper presentation or Poster presentation, not both. Abstracts which meet the requirements of the peer reviewers for possible presentation at the conference, but which are not selected for oral presentation at the conference will automatically qualify for presentation and entry into the Best Poster Award unless specified on your abstract cover sheet that you do not wish to enter your poster into the competition.

    • To qualify for consideration in the ACAP Undergraduate Student Paramedic Award, the student paramedic named on the submitted abstract must have contributed at least 50% towards the study, and must agree to present his/her paper orally at the conference if it is selected).
    • To qualify for consideration in the ACAP Graduate Paramedic Award, the paramedic named on the submitted abstract must have contributed at least 50% towards the study, and must agree to present his/her paper orally at the conference if it is selected).

    Oral presentations take place in chaired symposia and are 15 minutes in length plus 4 minutes for questions and answers.

    Publication of Abstracts

    All abstracts selected for presentation at the ACAP National Conference will be published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Emergency Primary Health Care (JEPHC) in the issue immediately following the Conference. All authors presenting abstracts at the Conference are also asked to consider submitting their full papers to JEPHC for publication. Please contact the journal’s Managing Editor, Rhona Macdonald to obtain further details.

    Outcome of submission

    You will be informed via email as to the outcome of your abstract submission in the first week of August 2010.

    Immediately following submission of your abstract, you will receive an automated confirmation email.
